Purple Corn is a rare commodity. Peru is the only country that produces purple corn commercially. Annually, around 12,000 to 15,000 acres are planted with non-GMO/non-hybridized purple corn. While there are multiple varieties of purple corn, all of them originated from an ancestral line called "Kculli", still cultivated in Peru. The Kculli line is very old.
